Class Summaries NADOA is offering a large variety of classes this year. We encourage you to stay for the entire Institute, so you do not miss out on any classes. Take either a late- night flight or stay an extra night and enjoy Louisville on your own after attending Institute all day on Friday. It will be worth your time. Wednesday Classes Unclaimed Property – Drilling Down into the What, the Why, & the When – KPMG, Will King, Quin Moore & Sarah Ruebel (Morning only) During this session KPMG will provide attendees with an introduction into timely unclaimed property topics impacting the Oil and Gas industry today. The first 50 minutes of the session will provide participants with an introduction into core unclaimed property concepts. Following a break, attendees will take a deeper dive into how companies can resolve compliance gaps through various VDA programs and will discuss policy and procedure considerations and recent legislative developments. Excel Skills 1 & 2 – Jason Wilkins (Beginner - Morning & Advanced - Afternoon) Interactive Excel courses focusing on different levels of user skills. Beginner covering basic functionality and Advanced covering in-depth uses of excel for Land use. You must bring a laptop with Excel loaded for the class. You must pre- register since class size is limited. CDOA Review – 8:00 am -5:00 pm - Judy Moreland, CDOA & Eli Murray, CDOA (Morning & Afternoon) All chapters of the review manual will be covered except California since it has been removed from the test. Thursday & Friday Classes Mergers & Acquisitions in Oil & Gas - What to Expect –– Jason Wilkins Presentation discussing methodologies of integrating data and processes in the land department. This will only be presented one time on Thursday morning. The History of Oil and Gas, Parts One and Two – Jason Lucas If you have never attended this class, you are in for a treat. Jason presents the History of our industry from beginning to modern day. You can attend either or both sessions. Once you go to one, you will want to make time for Part Two. Jason is engaging and makes history interesting. Did someone say he gives out candy bars?

Marcellus Land Issues – Andy Graham and Jason Lucas Both are seasoned Marcellus attorneys with up-to-date experience on current Marcellus issues. If you work this basin, this class is a must attend. Carried Working Interest Calculations and ORRI Calculations – EIi Murray, CDOA Eli will cover both simple and complex working interest calculations and simple and complex ORRI calculations. If you have ever been stumped by ORRI language and how it affects the WI, this class is for you. Fixed versus Floating Royalties: Fall 2023 Update and the 2023 Texas Supreme Court decision – Demetri Economou A discussion of fixed and floating royalty interests and the A discussion of accounting topics such as payouts, working interest adjustments, joint interest billings, owner inquiries, and COPAS. The Rights, Obligations, and Implications of a Spouse (CO, TX WY, NM) – Bresee Carlson States may handle spousal rights upon death differently. This class discusses the differences and answers the tough questions. Royalty Payment Statutes in Texas and New Mexico– Jimmy DuPuis A comparison and contrast of the royalty payment statutes in Texas and New Mexico, including timing of royalty payment and penalties for late or non-payment, rules governing when royalty payments can be suspended, and division orders. Landman Panel – A Discussion of Current Topics of Interest – Jim Dewbre, Moderator, Christian Sizemore (OK, ND, UT) Jacob Hancock (IL, IN, KY) Nikia O’Neal (Marcellus) & Mark Eppes (MS, AL, FL, KS) Wind and Solar Leases – Andy Graham As renewables become more prevalent, some of our counterparts are beginning to see these types of leases in their work. Learn more about Wind and Solar leasing before one lands on your desk. Pooling in Texas, Voluntary Pooling, Forced Pooling and Allocation wells – Benjamin Holliday Unlike many states, Pooling in Texas has long been a voluntary recent treatment in the Texas Supreme Court Counting Beans in the Oilfield – Carole Tear affair, where pooling limitations in the oil and gas lease can often frustrate the operator’s development plans. With the advent of allocation wells and the increased use of the Mineral Interest Pooling Act, these limitations are changing. This course will examine Texas’ voluntary pooling, forced pooling, and allocation wells, with a look to the specific issues regarding each.
