people. How do we inform these companies and corporate leaders that Land Administration is a vital role in Oil & Gas? Lisa said that as new people are hired with companies, we need to do lunch and learns; she said that she has even volunteered at her company to teach these new employees, and even current employees and different departments. Cross education is the key. My interview went on; however, my time is ending. The lesson to learn from this is that we must educate people on what we do. You will go through good times and bad times in the industry, but never give up because what we do takes a special skill that not many people can do. If you are new to this industry, grab a mentor and learn as much as you can from them. They are a wealth of knowledge.

Welcome to Texas! First stop? Dairy Queen for a dipped cone. Now to get from Texarkana to Houston. And how do you survive this long trip? Well, you drive 90-95 mph down 59, except in those small towns. We all know those cops are itching to catch someone and the judge won’t be in until Tuesday when they get back from fishing. You also create a small game. Let me take you back to Day 2 of traveling and seeing Dollar General. Now the mention comes into play because all down Hwy 59 we played a made-up game of “I spy.” How do you play? Simple! When you see a Dollar General, Family Dollar, or Dollar Tree, you yell it out. What do you win? The pride of knowing you saw it first. You cannot believe the entertainment this brought to us all through Texas. I think at this point we were just delirious and trying to stay sane in some capacity. Well, after about 9 hours on the road from Memphis, we finally made it home to Houston. Back to the crazy drivers and crazy freeways that we have come to know. It was great to be home. Overall, people called me crazy for doing this trip. They prayed for me because they thought I would need it. But I had nothing but fun and laughed the whole time. You never understand the bonds you create with people when you join the NADOA Board, the Institute Committee, or just a committee in general until you have times like this. Times you will cherish and never forget. I can honestly say that this trip with Betty Davidson, Cheryl Hampton, and Lisa Buffaloe may have been the best road trip I have ever taken. These ladies have a wealth of knowledge and stories you do not want to miss. I encourage you to find Betty, Cheryl, or Lisa at the 50 th Anniversary in Louisville and talk to them, learn from them, pick their brains because they welcome it. Would I do this trip again? Absolutely! This is what NADOA is all about. Networking and making great memories. Who’s up for the next road trip?

Now, about this time we are located… still in

ARKANSAS! My gosh I thought we would never reach Texas. We looked and looked and then we saw it. The sign we all look for when coming back to Texas after visiting these foreign states.
