Professional development Workshop hosted by COACh WiSE is hosting a professional development workshop in partnership with COACh called “Career Launch & Acceleration” on Zoom on Thursday Oct. 14, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Workshop description: This workshop provides techniques necessary for an effective career launch into the job that best fits your skills and interests. This will help position you to be most effective in finding and applying for a variety of job positions, developing a tailored CV for the position and being an effective communicator in the interview. Additional topics include effective communication methods for teaching and research presentations, importance of network building and finding a mentor, building a strong CV and developing an professional internet presence. Zoom Link , Meeting ID: 989 0129 3597, Passcode: 428362 Open Mic Night Join WiSE for the 3rd Annual Real Stories of Science Open Mic Night for an evening of sharing stories and community on October 26th at 5pm. This hybrid event is open to members of the CSHL community at all levels - join us virtually or in-person by registering here: If you would like to submit your story anonymously to be shared by the host, you can do so here. Contact Kat Denney for more information. Annual In-House Education Retreat November 13th over Zoom. During this day-long meeting, WiSE welcomes scientists-in- training at CSHL and from neighboring NY-based institutes to attend lectures given by WiSE board members and invited guest speakers on gender disparity. Science Cafes If you would like to sign up for a Science Cafe, contact Alexa Pagliaro. At these “lunch and learn” events, WiSE members speak about their research, their path to CSHL, and what life is like as a scientist. Journal Clubs If you would like to sign up for a Journal Club, contact Connor Fitzpatrick. The goal of these meetings is to promote the application of scientific scrutiny to peer-reviewed literature on gender disparities.
