Share the Shaka, Share Aloha ➳ Stew & Rice is committed to sharing inspiring stories of history, culture and aloha. Recently, emcee Kamaka Pili led a heartfelt Talk Story with traditional surfboard shaper and Hawaiian sled builder Tom “Pohaku” Stone. Nearly 100 members and guests gave rapt attention to Tom’s vision of sharing his culture’s traditions and knowledge with the next generation and the world. Then in June, guests were privy to a sneak peek of the film “Shaka, A Story of Aloha” presented by producer Steve Sue. AUGUST Kamā‘aina Kanikapila Tuesday, August 22, 5:30 p.m. Wear your favorite mu‘u mu‘u with a flower in your hair, or your best aloha shirt and lei, and reminisce with friends at our annual Kamā‘aina Kanikapila. Delight in a specially prepared Hawaiian themed dinner prepared by Executive Chef Brandon Lee. Plus, sway to a musical performance by Kualoa At Dawn and enjoy an informative Talk Story on Hawaiian music history presented by Kealakai Center for Pacific Strings. It’s a great time of year to gather with old friends and new! Members, former members and their guests are welcome.
Senior Staff Commodore Bo Wheeler will join us to share insight on notable Transpacific Race history and actual footage from prior races. The race is famous for fast downwind sailing under spinnaker in the trade winds, so it promises to be an exciting evening. The Transpacific Yacht Club was born of an idea hatched by the same man who had sparked the 1906 inaugural race to Honolulu— Clarence W. Macfarlane—and is the race organizing club for what is considered one of yachting’s premier offshore races which attracts entrants from all over the world. The Transpac is a biennial
