This month our spotlight is on Laura Moore, our group secretary. Laura lives in Bella Vista, Arkansas along with her husband Ric and their goldendoodle, Jojo the wonder dog. Laura and Ric bought their lot in 2010 after spending only 1 weekend in ORPS. She started quilting in 2009 after her daughter Jennifer was killed in a tragic accident, finding comfort in making a memory quilt out of her clothing. Now she can take this quilt and take comfort in remembering her daughter wearing the different pieces of clothing. Laura also loves to find new, fun projects to create including wallets, bags, lanyards just to name a few. Some of Laura ’ s other interests here at ORPS include pickleball, walking, her love of people and the many activities. Laura keeps us laughing in the sewing room with her breakout singing and dancing. She feels ORPS is better than high school and with all the great people in the sewing room, she loves coming each day as it fills her with joy, as she does for all of us. Thanks, Laura, for all you do. On February 28th we proudly displayed our work in the El Saguaro Clubhouse. Quilts of all sizes and styles, bags, dish caddies, iPad caddies and many more hand - crafted items were on display and for sale. It gets bigger every year!

Each year we create beautiful quilts to be raffled off at the Ladies Luncheon held on Tuesday , March 5, 2024 . The ORPS Quilting and Sewing group have adopted the Shelter From The Storm, the Coachella Valley ’ s only domestic violence shelter, as a focused charity. Your support by purchasing raffle tickets helps us purchase the materials needed to make these quilts. Due to the generosity of the ORPS community we were able to send the Shelter From The Storm approximately $10,000 last season. Way to go ORPS! Watch for a pop - up sales table at ORPS events where the quilts will be displayed and tickets will be sold. Ticket prices are $5 each or five (5) for $20. Quilts may also be viewed and tickets purchased in the sewing room when members are present from 8am to 5pm Monday through Sunday.
