PROTECT LOCAL PETS Support These Rescues for Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and in honor of this great holiday, we would like to encourage our readers to support, donate to, or even adopt from one of these great local pet rescues.

SPCA OF WAKE COUNTY Where: 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh When: Every day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Website: SPCAWake.org

The SPCA of Wake County is not only committed to helping stray or homeless animals find their families, but it also dedicates many of its resources to education, training, and other programs that ensure positive animal welfare across North Carolina. The organization offers food delivery options for low-mobility seniors or those who cannot travel to get food for their pets, and it helps with disaster relief efforts for animal protection. Families and children can also learn more about how to be good stewards to local animals, while its spay/neuter program ensures there are fewer homeless pets on the streets. BREAKFAST SWEET POTATOES Inspired by AmbitiousKitchen.com

In 1987, three local women decided to do their part for homeless and stray pets in the Raleigh region. Together, they became foster parents to countless cats and dogs, helping them find their forever homes in the process. Today, that organization is Second Chance, and it is dedicated to helping animals find homes. The shelter remains committed to every animal it serves, offering pets a place to call home while they wait for just the right family. The organization also has a cageless, no-kill facility for its cats. You can find your next furry friend online!

Saving Grace was founded in 2004, and it specializes in helping pets in rural parts of North Carolina. The shelter also takes in animals from other shelters that cannot house the pets due to space. While they wait for their homes, animals at Saving Grace enjoy a farm setting and lots of volunteers and foster families. Learn more online!
