NEXT STEPS

HOW TO GET THE MOST OF YOUR EXPERIENCE

Before the Shadowing Experience Do Your Research Understand the role you’ll be observing (e.g., job responsibilities, tools used). Set Clear Goals What do you want to learn? (e.g., day-to-day tasks, career path, workplace culture). Write down 3–5 specific questions or objectives. Dress appropriately—ask if unsure about the dress code.

During the Experience Time to Learn

Be Punctual and Professional Arrive early and introduce yourself confidently. Treat everyone respectfully—administrative staff, coworkers, etc. Observe Actively Pay attention to both the big picture and the small details. Note how people communicate, solve problems, and use tools/software.

Ask Thoughtful Questions Examples:

“What do you like most about your job?” “What skills are most important in this role?” “How did you get into this field?”

Engage If offered a chance to help with a task, accept it with enthusiasm. Be honest if you don’t understand something—curiosity is a strength.
