Gloucester Renaissance: The Magnificent 7

Neville Mills and the Brunsdon Insurance team

Ensuring a winning formula

As one of Gloucestershire’s longest established and most successful independent brokers, Brunsdon Insurance is well placed to understand how the revival and renewed interest in the city of Gloucester is evolving. It is still owned by county people who work in the business. Neville Mills, managing director since the management buy-out in 2015, has 27 years at Brunsdon. Here he reflects on his time with the company and talks of how he sees things changing for Gloucester in the future. “Brunsdon in its various forms has been providing professional advice since 1932. Well before my time. The business started in the centre of the city and, when I joined, was occupying offices on the corner of Clarence Street and Station Road. “Most of our business was by footfall and there were days when the queue went onto the street. As technology improved and clients' buying habits changed, so did our

need to occupy offices in the city centre. “We moved to a modern unit at Barnwood, but then took the opportunity in 2015 to move to our current offices in Quedgeley.” Technology has driven efficiency and the need to offer fast and competitive solutions came as a result. But it is not all about technology. “In a highly competitive and crowded marketplace, we think we are rather special with the experience that we have. We encourage all members of the team to take professional examinations and have a very high percentage of staff qualified to chartered status, with many others currently undertaking their chartered examinations. “With a collective expertise across a wide spectrum of trade sectors that includes manufacturers, transport, construction, professions and technology, we deliver cost-effective and innovative insurance solutions for these businesses and others, together with similar solutions for private clients.
