We can’t say 'mission accomplished' – because Gloucestershire is still building for its future
Focus on county’s business success
We have rightly celebrated the transformation of the past decade and a half in this issue. Gloucester’s renaissance has been something that all of Gloucestershire can be proud of. Our county town is now on the up after years of decline. Whereas once the tourists stopped only in Regency Cheltenham or the stunning Cotswolds, they now also head to the city that gives our county its name and love what they see. But dwelling on the past and being satisfied with what has been done is only a good thing if there is a plan in place to keep the ball moving. When President George W Bush declared “Mission accomplished” aboard an aircraft carrier in the Gulf in the early 2000s, he had no plan for what came next and we all know what happened next. And while Punchline doesn’t have the power of a US President (yet, anyway), we do have the chance to look forward and celebrate some of the things that keeps driving our county forward. From the Cyber Central plan that is the bedrock of Cheltenham’s bright future, to the successes of Gloucestershire’s engineering firms and manufacturing companies, we’ve got it covered. The following pages highlight what is great about Gloucestershire, and what will continue making it great for years, decades and centuries to come. In this county, there are renowned and venerable institutions with a rich history living alongside start-up firms with bold and innovative ideas. And at Punchline we want to hear about every single one of them. We champion business, innovation and ingenuity fromWotton-under-Edge to theWorcestershire border.
