Literature from CyNam explaining the birth of HUB8 said:“It is a purpose-built co-working space in the heart of Cheltenham dedicated to enabling the growth and development of the flourishing cyber tech ecosystem.” CyNam describes its own role as “bringing together the best technology minds from local SMEs and start-ups to fully harness the rich cyber security ecosystem that flourishes around Cheltenham, the home of the National Technical Authority for Information Security, GCHQ”. It is now a community interest company with a board of directors incorporating technical leaders from the local community, with backing from local and national government.

Chris Dunning-Walton, CyNam director, said: “We passionately believe Cheltenham is THE hub for Cyber Security in the UK, full of knowledgeable individuals, great companies, new exciting start-ups and exceptional cyber talent.” CyNam’s own sales pitch for HUB8 continues: “HUB8 is a focal point for the cyber tech community to connect, collaborate and create. Its mission is to help establish Cheltenham as the cyber tech capital of the UK. “More than just a workspace, HUB8 is an ecosystem in and around which new ideas and opportunities can emerge. “Opening this summer and located in The Brewery Quarter, HUB8 has been designed in collaboration with CyNam to respond to the specific requirements of cyber tech businesses both large and small.
