Forming the south west quarter of Gloucester city centre, Greater Blackfriars is an area where historic relics of national importance sit alongside new student accommodation. The GHURC brief was a vision to create a cultural and civic heart of the city. Whilst it may have taken a lot longer than first intended, that plan is now well on the way to fulfilment. Painstakingly restored Blackfriars Priory, the best- preserved Dominican Friary in England dating from the 13th century, is now an event venue and a centre for the performing arts taking centre stage at Gloucester’s annual History Festival.
