PHOENIXMAKESTHECASEFOR RENEWABLEENERGY

g The future potential for renewable gas is the subject of a new research project, which is being funded by The Centre for Advanced Sustainable Energy (CASE) with support from Phoenix Natural Gas and industry partners Agri Ad and EnerChem Solutions. Hosted by Queen’s University, CASE funds collaborative, industry-led research also at Ulster University and government-backed research body, the Agri- Food and Biosciences Institute (ABFI). The new partnership will seek to quantify the opportunity available to harness biomethane from agricultural waste across Northern Ireland for injection into the natural gas grid locally, creating a renewable gas home-heating solution. Biomethane injection into the natural gas network has been proven in countries right across Europe, demonstrating the ability of the natural gas infrastructure to transport and deliver a blended form of home-heating fuel. CASE is funded by Invest NI, and has recently launched a call for new project applications. requirements. In addition, the eLearning Academy will also be the

ENERGYFORCHILDREN FUNDSPECIAL SCHOOL’SFACILITIES

g Pupils at an East Belfast school have received a boost with the development of a new outdoor sensory space in the school grounds, funded by the Energy for Children Charitable Trust. Supporting 25 pupils with a range of social, emotional, behavioural and wellbeing needs, Clarawood Special School provides a safe space for learning and development, with a relentless focus on developing all pupils in their care to be the best they can be. Having invested in an indoor sensory room at the school some time ago there was a real need to further provide sensory learning experiences

and with the funding boost from Energy for Children an under-utilised courtyard area in the school grounds has been transformed to provide a safe space for outdoor play, learning and self-regulation. Energy for Children is an initiative of Phoenix Natural Gas and the wider natural gas industry. The Charity was established in 2005 to provide financial support to groups and individuals that may slip through the net of the wider charity network.
