The picture I have shows a stone with a few shells lying around it and a thrush near by with a snail in its bill. It seems that each time the thrush found a snail it would break the shell on this stone. You can see that the thrush is not so stupid after all. Everything has enemies, and all hiding places are not safe. But I know one hiding place that is safe. It is in the love of the Lord and under the shelter of His care. When you become a real Chris tian and let the Saviour have your life, then you will be safe here and hereafter. “ 0 Lord, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble” (Isa. 33:2). I once saw a snail whose shell had been broken. Somehow or other the snail had mended it with a sort of lime formation nearly as hard as stone. The snail makes its shell in three layers because it knows that this is stronger than one layer o f solid material. The three layers for protection remind us of the love of God the Father, the saving grace of the Lord Jesus, and the guiding care of the Holy Spirit. All three provide a wonderful hiding place for the one who comes to trust in the Lord. I hope each of you will. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all” (II Cor. 13:14). Perhaps you never thought of it, but the shell is the only skele ton that the snail has, and it car ries this shell on the outside of itself. Wouldn’t we look strange if our skeletons were on the out side? Wouldn’t we look hideous if all our bones were exposed? I am so glad the Lord did not make us like that, aren’t you ? The Lord always knows best. He always works wisely, and for the reason He wants you to trust with your soul. Will you do it, boys and girls? “ Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding” (Prov. 3 :5 ).

Mothers 9

Day Features

YOUR BIBLE QU IZ The prophet Hosea, speaking on behalf of the Lord, exclaims: "M y people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast reject ed knowledge, I will also reject thee" (Hosea 4:6). With the Bible readily available to all, there is no excuse today for anyone to be ignorant of the Word of Gdd. See how many mothers of the Bible you can name. 1. Who was the mother of Seth?

SOMETH ING TO M AKE The month of May brings Mother's Day. As you think of Mother's Day I'm sure you are asking this ques tion: "What can I give to Mother on her special day?" Mothers like things that are made especially for them— so why not make your mother a Mother's Day Booklet of Bible Verses? Choose a pretty piece of construc tion paper for the cover of your book and white paper for the pages. You will need enough white paper to make six pages. From a piece of construction paper the same color as the piece you chose for the cover, cut the letters M -O -T-H -E -R . The headlines in the daily newspaper will furnish patterns for the letters or you may use the letters from an ABC book for the patterns. Paste one letter on each of the white pages of the book. Then write on each page a Bible verse beginning with that letter as: M "M y peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I un to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27). "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out" (Rom. 11:33). "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlast ing arms" (Deut. 33:27). "Her price is far above rubies . . . Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her" (Prov. 31:10, 28). "Every good gift and every per fect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variable ness, neither shadow of turning" (Jas. 1:7). "Rest in the Lord, and wait pa tiently for him" (Psa. 37:7). When the book is completed, place all of the white pages within the cover, punch holes and tie with a ribbon or cord. A picture of flowers, cut from a magazine, would decorate the cover; or use a picture of a moth er and her child. ONLY ONE MOTHER Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn. Hundreds of lambs in the purple clover, Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn, But only ONE MOTHER the world over. o T H E R
