FAFSA DELAY 2024-2025 (2)

2024-2025 FAFSA MAJOR CHANGES ARE COMING. ARE YOU READY?

Overview 2024–2025 FAFSA Delayed!

The Prairie View A&M University Offce of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships would like to inform you about some BIG changes coming to the 2024-2025 FAFSA APPLICATION!

Due to the FAFSA Simplifcation Act, the 2024–25 FAFSA will be delayed until December 2023 due to changes the US Department of Education is implementing to make the application more streamlined for students and families.

JUST SO YOU KNOW:

- The 2024-2025 FAFSA opens in December 2023 instead of October 1. The actual date will be announced soon. In future years, the FAFSA open date will return to October 1.

- Obtaining an FSA ID is critical. Students and parents must have an FSA ID before starting the FAFSA application. The FSA ID is required, including parents without a Social Security number.

- The number of FAFSA Questions has been reduced from 108 to 36.

- Terminology Changes:

Someone required to report their information on the FAFSA, the student and parent(s) are now called a “contributor.”

The IRS DRT is being replaced by Direct Data Exchange (DDX).

Student Aid Index (SAI) will replace Estimated Family Contribution (EFC). After submitting the FAFSA, students will receive a Student Aid Index (SAI) instead of an EFC. The PVAMU Office of Financial Aid will use the SAI to determine your eligibility. A student with a SAI of 0 or below -1,500 will be eligible for a full Pell Grant.

- The parent reported on the FAFSA could change. For dependent students with separated parents, the parent providing the most fnancial support must be included on the new FAFSA.

- Consenting to Financial Aid Direct Data Exchange (DDX) is required. DDX is a new process where the IRS shares federal tax information (FTI) with HCU and will calculate a Student Aid Index (SAI) instead of an EFC. Every contributor on the FAFSA will be required to consent to DDX, even if you or parent(s) did not fle taxes, in order for you to be eligible for federal fnancial aid.

Next Steps:

1. Create an FSA ID for you and your parents, including parents without a Social Security number at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch.

2. In December, look for the notification of when the FAFSA will be launching and more details to come. We strongly recommend you complete it as soon as it is available to receive a financial aid offer for the 2024-2025 aid year.

3. When completing the FAFSA, all contributors will need to consent to use Direct Data Exchange (mx) process. It will transfer the 2022 tax information from the IRS to your FAFSA.

4. Use PVAMU ’s School Code 003630

5. Stay tuned for upcoming sessions, events, and webinars that will be held by the Offce of Financial Aid & Scholarships in the coming weeks to address any questions or concerns related to the new FAFSA changes. Available Resources
