of focused team-building exercises with expert trainers from the Univer- sity of North Carolina at Charlotte’s (UNC Charlotte) Venture Outdoor Leadership program. The exercises helped prepare them for the week by providing various problem-solving sce- narios designed to improve their active listening skills, interpersonal com- munication, trust, and confidence as newly acquainted associates. Riding on a wave of excitement from the session, participants boarded charter buses to a catered dinner and fraternizer hosted by the Kappa Foundation of Charlotte. Sunday, June 2nd, marked the first full day of programming, which began with the ULI daily kick-off meeting. Dressed uniformly in dark suits, white shirts, and designated 35th
administration Kappa ties, participants received opening remarks from Grand Board Member and Polemarch and 33rd Guy L. Grant Awardee Jwyanza B. Watt regarding the importance of spiritual grounding in their leadership walk. Shortly after, brothers made their way to Second Calvary Baptist Church, where Spring 1991 initiate of the University of Texas, Austin Chapter, the Iota Delta of Kappa Alpha Psi, Rev. Dr. Ralph M. McCormick, delivered an impassioned and timely sermon about being divinely selected. After church, participants prepared for Campus Day at UNC Charlotte. Upon arrival, the brothers were greeted by UNC Charlotte Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and ULI Dean Emeritus Dr. Kevin W.
Bailey (Charlotte (NC) AL 1993) and undergraduate members of the UNC Charlotte Chapter, the Zeta Delta of Kappa Alpha Psi. The brothers of Zeta Delta then facilitated a guided campus tour to familiarize the participants with the grounds and university facil- ities. Upon their return, participants underwent essential training with Darryl K. McGee (Iota Gamma 1982), lead ULI advisor and Vice President for Student Affairs at Lane College, related to Title IX policy, gender-based harass- ment, and campus sexual violence. Brother McGee stressed the impor- tance of understanding how campus culture and fraternity life can create the conditions for Title IX issues and how ULI participants must be aware and prepared to be vocal advocates of
