employees and executives across each of their four primary areas of busi- ness: aerospace, building automation, performance materials and technol- ogies, and safety and productivity. Brothers were also given a guided tour and a company-sponsored lunch with Honeywell team members to learn more about their experiences and professional pathways to joining the company. In the afternoon, the brothers met with 69th Guy L. Grant Awardee Dr. Danny A. Rojas to learn the necessary steps to effectively tran- sition from college to career. Brother Dr. Davis then hosted a session entitled “Preparing for Graduate and Profes- sional School,” which offered brothers an inside look at the admissions process, entrance exam prep, and how to identify the best graduate program
for one’s interests and career goals. In the last of their formal learning ses- sions, powerhouse and internationally renowned speaker Dr. Derek F. Green- field (Raleigh (NC) AL 2011) gave the day’s final presentation. Known for his dynamism and unique ability to connect with his audiences, Dr. Green- field brought down the house with his masterful oration and deep emotional engagement with the participants. Through life history, spoken word artistry, dynamic storytelling, and invitation for radical vulnerability, He left the brothers fortified by the fire of their humanity. The evening included Fireside Chat #2, where Brothers Darryl H. Hill, Jr. (Kappa Beta 2018) and Havier D.H. Roller (Chi 2017) discussed their experience in preparing for and performing alongside Usher
during the Super Bowl LVIII Apple ® Halftime Show in Las Vegas. Following their discussion, the brothers joined the “Super Bowl Nupes” in the lab, where they practiced kane-work and stroll techniques to take back to their respective yard shows this coming fall. In alignment with our objective, “To inspire service in the public interest,” community was the primary theme on Day 5 of the institute. The brothers traveled to nearby David- son and arrived at the historic Ada Jenkins Center to assist with several beautification projects in partnership with Lowe’s Home Improvement. Together, the brothers completed the construction of tables and benches for the Center’s park areas and assisted with landscaping work to revive the center’s curb appeal. On the interior,
