F ormer Major League Baseball (MLB) outfielder Ted Savage (Alpha Mu 1955) entered the Chapter Invisible on January 15, 2023, at age 85. Theodore Ephesian Savage, Jr. was born on February 21, 1937, in Venice, IL, across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, MO. He attended nearby Lincoln High School in East St. Louis, where he was a three-sport star in baseball, football, and basketball. Savage attended Lincoln University in Jef- ferson City, MO, where he played baseball. His college years were interrupted by military service, where he continued his baseball career with the Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, TX. After his honorable discharge, Savage signed a baseball contract with the MLB Philadelphia Phillies franchise. In 1962, Savage made his MLB debut play- ing in 127 games, batting .266 with seven home

In 1987, he returned to one of his former teams,

the Cardinals franchise for 25 years before retiring as Director of Target Market- ing in the Cardinals Care and Community Relations department. His annual Return Baseball to the Inner City [RBI] Celebrity Golf Tournament in St. Louis raised thousands of dollars annually for over 30 years. In 2006, Brother Ted Savage was inducted into the Lincoln University Hall of Fame. ♦
