MORE THAN 70 SCHOOL AND COLLEGE STUDENTS ATTENDED A SUCCESSFUL MEET THE CIOB EVENT IN BELFAST ON JANUARY 29, OFFERING A GLIMPSE INTO LIFE AS A CONSTRUCTION PROFESSIONAL… CIOB Northern Ireland inspires next generation of construction talent

The next generation of construction workers in Northern Ireland has been offered a glimpse into future opportunities at a recent Meet the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) event. More than 70 young people from schools and colleges learned about the benefits a career in the sector can bring, from a rewarding pay cheque to varied working environments and strong progression opportunities. The event, hosted at the Europa Hotel in Belfast on January 29, provided a unique platform for professionals and aspiring construction enthusiasts to connect. A pathway exists for anyone to enter the construction industry, regardless of their level of education, said CIOB Regional

Manager for Ireland and Northern Ireland Sarah Hallinan. “Giving young people the chance to see the vast opportunities and benefits of a career in construction is absolutely essential for the future of our industry,” said Sarah. “Events like this allow us to not only showcase the exciting potential within the sector but also connect students with professionals who can inspire and guide them.” Supporting efforts to get more women into the construction industry, speakers included Campbell Civils Director Denise Campbell. Formerly a local authority tourism manager, Denise took a two-year career break to help her husband out in his business. Finding many of the process-driven

skills used in her previous role translated well to the civil engineering business, Denise has ultimately established a career in the industry. She recently graduated as a Chartered Member of CIOB alongside Campbell Civils Director Stephen Campbell and Contracts Manager Ahmed Saghir. The event also featured an all-female panel hosted by CIOB NI Vice Chair Yvonne Conway, and including Strategic Investment Board Social Value Adviser Esther Barnes, Strule Shared Education Campus Programme Director Jennifer Morgan and WOMEN’STEC Chief Executive Lynn Carvill. The panel delivered insights on mentorship, training programmes
