SHANKILL SHARED WOMEN’S CENTRE, BELFAST
WALL PANELLING Commissioned to fabricate feature wall panelling for Shankill Shared Women’s Centre, GF Joinery Contracts Ltd was involved in collaboration with the architect and main contractor from the early stages of the project. Close co-operation ensured both a smooth installation and seamless alignment of the wall panelling with other design elements in the project. Gavin Flanagan, Founder and Director, said, “Stepping back and witnessing the final result is undeniably rewarding. The wall panelling has worked very well, contributing an authentic look to the building.” Established in 1998, the specialist joinery and commercial fit-out firm has evolved from kitchen installations to encompass a diverse range of large-scale projects. Working in partnership with reputable contractors such as P&K McKaigue, McKelvey Construction and McAleer & Rushe, its project portfolio includes The Ebrington Hotel in Derry/ Londonderry, Golflinks Hotel in Portrush and Clontarf Castle in Dublin.
ALUMINIUM WINDOWS, DOORS & CURTAIN WALLING Innovated
Aluminium Technology Ltd (iAT) manufactured and installed a wide range of aluminium architectural windows, doors and curtain
walling, as well as bespoke metal works, for Shankill Shared Women’s Centre. Design-and-build curtain walling represented the bulk of iAT’s works, showcased in the project’s courtyard area alongside cladding and bespoke metal works, and bringing natural light and a sense of openness into the building. Challenges included details and interfaces between cladding, which needed to be overcome to ensure weathertightness and airtightness while maintaining an aesthetically-pleasing look. Further complex tasks included providing the project architect with designs for oriel windows to the rear of the building. Leslie McClements, General Manager at iAT, said, “P&K McKaigue were a pleasure to work alongside on this project. Their complete Design Team demonstrated a high level of professionalism throughout the project.
