PROJECT PROFILE

SHANKILL SHARED WOMEN’S CENTRE, BELFAST

ALUMINIUM CLADDING

SIGNAGE Beyond Signage Ltd completed all internal and external signage at the new £7.8m Shankill Shared Women’s Centre. Included in its commission were a sizable 8mx8m built-up logo on the external wall, and a range of way-finding totem signs, internal lightboxes and CNC cut letters. Matt Burns, Operations Manager, said, “Shankill Shared Women’s Centre is one of three PEACE IV shared space projects in Belfast, and we were delighted to help with the signage requirements for this fantastic new building.” Established in 2009 by David Foster and Philip Carmichael, the Carrickfergus business started out as a small local company printing banners, manufacturing one-off shop signs and signwriting vehicles. In 2016, the business rebranded as Beyond Signage Ltd and moved to a new multilevel 8000sqft production facility, which operates as LEAN manufacturing plant featuring the latest CNC cutting, digital printing, welding, fabricating and drilling technology. The site is accredited to ISO:9001 for quality standards and CE EN1090 for structural welding.

Sperrin Facades Ltd was commissioned to design, supply and install highly-bespoke aluminium cladding for Shankill Shared Women’s Centre. Involving a high degree of design complexity and interface with multiple finishes, the project was its most complex aluminium cladding installation to date. Ryan McIvor, General Manager, said, “The end result speaks for itself, and we are very proud to have been involved. The design process was complex as we had to develop and propose a range of options to deliver on the architect’s concept. “The prolonged design period compressed the time we had available for manufacture and install, which meant we had to accelerate the install process. We fast tracked the procurement and installation of the façade substrate and support system, so everything was installed and ready to receive the façade panelling straightaway when it was released from fabrication.” Sperrin Facades also worked closely with P&K McKaigue throughout the design and on-site phases of the project, with co-ordination particularly important in the courtyard area due to multiple trades working in parallel.
