A general building contractor with an enviable reputation for successfully delivering projects on time and to budget across the public and private sectors, Leo Matheson Ltd is marking its 40th anniversary in 2025. Founder and Director Leo Matheson is a joiner by trade, having initially started his career working for a small local joinery firm, where he developed his skills. A keen eye for detail and passion for delivering high-quality workmanship set him apart from others in the industry. After gaining years of experience in his trade, Leo decided to take a leap into self-employment and, in 1985, Castlewellan-based Leo Matheson Limited was formed. Leo began by working on smaller residential projects, building a solid reputation for craftsmanship and reliability. His reputation spread quickly due to word-of-mouth recommendations, and he began to attract higher-profile projects, such as bespoke grand design homes and listed buildings. His attention to detail and knowledge of historical restoration has led to his company being appointed as principal contractor for multiple high-profile church renovation projects. As his business grew, Leo expanded his workforce and hired skilled craftsmen to help with larger projects.
