THE ELF ON THE SHELF

VISITS FRENCHMAN’S CREEK!

"Elf on the Shelf" is a popular Christmas tradition where a small elf figurine is sent by Santa Claus to watch over children and report back on their behavior, helping Santa determine who’s been naughty or nice. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, he moves to a new spot each night. Each morning, kids look for the elf, only to find him in playful or mischievous scenarios. He’s been known to have “magical powers,” and as long as kids don’t touch him, he flies back to the North Pole with his report. If a child touches the elf, it loses its magic and can no longer fly or fulfill its role. Parents remind children not to touch the elf, adding to the tradition’s mystery.

CHANCE TO WIN!

Starting tomorrow, December 12, through Tuesday, December 24, be on the lookout for the Elf on the Shelf—who will be moving to a new spot every day! The first person to email a picture of themselves finding the elf to avillalobos@frenchmanscreek.com will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win a gift card! Don't miss your chance—let the elf hunt begin!

ON PAR WITH OUR PEOPLE Prevent burnout during the holiday season --a 2024 survey by telemedicine provider Sesame found that 3 out of 5 Americans say their stress levels increase during the holiday season. Planning events, shopping for gifts, navigating family dynamics and traveling can make people feel overwhelmed and exhausted. Even though levels of burnout are high, there are ways to help avoid and manage it so you can enjoy your holiday season:

Set Realistic Expectations The holidays can bring many moving pieces, so setting realistic expectations is key to avoiding over commitment and perfectionism. One simple solution is sending holiday e-cards instead of physical ones, saving time on envelopes and postage. To stay on track, break down goals into manageable tasks, set timelines, and reward yourself for progress. Keeping commitments manageable is essential to prevent burnout.

Start Early To reduce holiday stress, spread out tasks and start early. Avoid last-minute rushing by preparing ahead: Starting early and creating a balanced schedule with downtime will help prevent stress. Send digital invitations two weeks in advance.

Make purchases a few weeks early. Decorate a few days before events.

Arrange food plans at least a week ahead. Prioritize tasks and delegate when possible.

Take Time to Recharge Taking regular breaks helps prevent burnout by allowing your mind and body to recharge. Rest boosts energy, mood, and productivity. Make time for activities like reading, socializing, and outdoor walks. Create a balanced schedule that includes self-care.

Maintain Boundaries Setting boundaries between tasks and rest is crucial for protecting your emotions and well-being. To avoid burnout during the holidays, scale back tasks, set firm end times for events, and compromise on commitments. For example, attend a short part of a long event instead of staying all day. Don't feel guilty about setting boundaries—less stress means more enjoyment!
