Nothing Could Stop Him My father is an impressive man for a whole host of reasons, but the most amazing thing he’s ever done is move our family from Argentina to the United States. Pulling this off required a huge lifestyle change, and he even left his career behind to start an entirely new one. Still, he persevered! Nothing could stop him from achieving his goal. In Argentina, my father was an attorney. He decided to start fresh in the United States and enter the field of hospital administration. I was only 4 years old at the time, and my brother would be born four months later! I can’t even begin to imagine the stress that came with this drastic change and parenting young children. While studying for his new career path, my father still needed to support us in a whole new country. He came up with a genius idea. My dad would buy a home, and as we lived there, he would fix it up and sell it! While this did mean frequent moving, it also ensured we had a place to stay and a source of income. I remember he once divided a home into three separate units, and while we lived in one, he rented out the other two for extra money. Clearly, he was a problem-solver! My dad was often hard at work fixing up these homes, but I remember one specific time when he really had to roll up his sleeves. In 2007, when the California real estate market was in crisis, my dad decided to invest in properties in Washington. After purchasing an area for condo conversions, he headed straight for Washington to get started — and was told he couldn’t hire subcontractors. Apparently, in Washington, a person needed to be a contractor in order to hire subcontractors. What did he do? He asked, “What does it take to be a contractor?”
How My Dad Never Took ‘No’ for an Answer
After time and effort, he earned his license and started his conversion project in Washington. I mean it when I say this man is not afraid of a challenge. Later, once my dad started hospital administration, he didn’t stay for too long. He then worked for a while in the automotive industry but finally decided to settle working in real estate. Evidently, this is what he should’ve been doing since the beginning, but it proves he was never afraid to try something new and learn along the way. I feel blessed to have him as a father and be so close to him — both physically and emotionally! He and my mom live less than 10 miles away. Even today, there is still so much I can learn from him. When it comes to home remodeling, he certainly influenced my siblings and me. All four of us have never moved into a home without remodeling (with Dad’s help, of course). Aside from learning about plumbing, electrical, dry walling, and more, he also taught me about patience and kindness. I can confirm that I have rarely seen him irritated or upset. He often says that God is in control and knows that whatever happened occurred for a reason. While I’ve tried to acquire his calm attitude, I’ll admit I have more of my English-Irish mom’s temper! Happy Father’s Day to not only my hardworking dad but to all the other fathers who give everything they have to support and love their families!

I DON’T KNOW WHAT I WANT TO EAT! Meal Planning Can Help With Indecisiveness
reason why meal planning doesn’t work for some people. When starting out, it’s best to create easy and basic foods. Once you begin meal planning, you will discover more simplistic ways to make intricate dishes. Another reason people avoid meal prep is the amount of time spent in the kitchen. However, you will save yourself time each day, so you can continue doing what you want throughout the week and less time ordering takeout or quickly throwing a menu together. Go online to find meal prep guides and a multitude of recipe options. We can’t wait to hear about your meal-prepping experience during your next visit!
planning helps you determine your dishes in advance, so you never need
to wonder what you and your family will eat that night. And best of all, you only need to cook at least once a week. • Keep more money in your pocket: Sometimes, when you are unsure of what you want to eat, your first option may be to order takeout. While this is a quick and easy way to get dinner, it can create a huge hole in your wallet — especially if you eat out more than once a week or feed a family. You will no longer need to make nightly food runs when you meal plan! You can buy your food in bulk, prepare a few nights’ worth of meals, and save tons of money.
Have you ever had those days when you don’t want to cook? What about times when you’ve had a long day at work, and the last thing on your mind is dinner? Pulling out your pots, cutting boards, and food can be stressful when you’re mentally and physically weary. Is there anything you can do to make this part of your life easier? Meal planning and prepping takes the stress out of cooking! What are some benefits of meal planning? • Know the answer to “What’s for dinner?”: There’s nothing more frustrating than opening your pantry, looking at the food, and not knowing what to eat. It can be draining to decide what to cook each night. But meal

“Before PT, I had very little mobility in my hips, lower back, and left shoulder. Now, I can do my job with zero issues and play golf with no pain! THANK YOU to all of my therapists, especially Bryant!” –Tyler L. “My experience at Focus was great. Julian and his staff worked with me on my knee replacement rehab. Very thorough and consistent with moving through the exercises. Starting out, I was not moving too well. By the time I finished, I could do almost all the things I could before surgery. Going downstairs is still a bit of a challenge, but I’m working on it daily. Thanks to Julian and ALL the folks at Focus!” –Jim B.

Do You Need Pelvic Floor Therapy?
The Effects of a Weak or Tense Pelvic Floor
What to Expect in Pelvic Floor Therapy A physical therapist will need to perform a physical exam to create a customized treatment plan. This exam will pinpoint the areas experiencing the most pain and assess what problems will be targeted in your treatment sessions. The main goal is to help you improve your pelvic floor, whether the solution is to strengthen or relax your muscles. Over time, your physical therapist will work with you to ensure you regain control of your urinary and bowel control, reduce pain, and improve sexual function. We’re excited to introduce pelvic floor therapy at Focus Physical Therapy! If you or someone you know may have issues with their pelvic floor muscles, come to our office to learn more about creating a treatment plan or call our friendly team at 949.709.8770.
• Have issues with holding in urine (leaking when sneezing, laughing, etc.) • Need to urinate often
You have probably heard about strengthening your pelvic floor, but what does this actually mean? Making up your core, the pelvic floor stretches from the front of your pubic bone to your tailbone. The pelvic floor muscles protect and hold together your bladder, bowels, and reproductive organs. While your pelvic floor controls your bladder and bowel movements, it also supports healthy sexual function. A strong pelvic floor can ensure various health benefits, while a weak pelvic floor can be the root of multiple health concerns. What issues does pelvic floor therapy help? Your pelvic floor has a direct impact on numerous bodily functions. Many people often struggle with weak pelvic floor muscles, but too-tight pelvic floor muscles can also be a cause for concern. For those with a weak or loose pelvic floor, they may:
• Be unable to hold in gas • Struggle to control bowels
Meanwhile, those with a tight pelvic floor can struggle with:
• Constipation • Bowel movement issues • Pelvic pain • Uncomfortable intercourse • Pain when urinating
Various pelvic floor disorders can cause daily stress and discomfort. If this happens, a physical therapist trained in pelvic floor treatment can help you discover how to overcome these issues.

Master the Waves Ocean Activities the Entire Family Will Love
Summer has finally arrived, and many of us will be going on weeklong excursions to the coast to get some much-needed rest and relaxation by the beach. For years, the beach has been one of the most popular summertime destinations for Americans, with millions of us flocking to the coast every year. If you’re planning to hit the sand this summer, you should prepare some exciting activities, so you and your family or travel partners can create memories that will last a lifetime. Here are a few oceanside activities you’ll want to check out on your vacation. Explore through snorkeling. Many people want to try scuba diving while on vacation but don’t have the time, training, and finances required to go on an excursion. That being said, you can get pretty close to the scuba-diving experience by snorkeling. Using a snorkel in the ocean, especially in flat water, is a great way to explore the underwater
world. You’ll be able to spot fish, crustaceans, and other sea life without needing extensive training. Those who regularly go snorkeling see it as a form of therapy that helps them relieve stress and anxiety. Feeling more relaxed and at peace will help make your vacation feel even
more magical. Grab a board.
If you want to experience something slightly more intense, you can try some of the many ocean activities involving a board. First-time ocean-goers will love using a boogie board or bodyboard to ride the waves into shore. Those who are more experienced may enjoy surfing for the first time or renting a standing paddleboard. Many beaches on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts have paddleboard rentals or surfing lessons. Be on the lookout at your vacation destination if you want to take advantage of these exciting activities. Tour the ocean. You may want to get away from the beach and experience open waters beyond the shore. If
that’s the case, you’ll want to see if your vacation destination offers glass-bottom boat or submarine tours. Some beaches even have whale-watching adventures, which provide an excellent opportunity to see some of nature’s largest creatures in their natural habitat.
