Respite Care

TEXAS HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES Many families don't consider taking care of an older or disabled loved one a burden. Rather it is part of a cycle of caring that began with their own parents taking care of them. However, it can take a toll on a caregiver's physical and emotional health if they don't get an occasional break. What is Respite? Respite means having someone else look after your loved one while you take a break. Sometimes, a family member or friend can step in and watch your child when you need a break. Other times, you may have to find a professional respite provider. Respite can be provided in many places: In your home, home of a family or friend, at a specialized camp, at a specialized facility (for extended care). https://apps.hhs.texas.gov/taketimetexas/child-caregiving.html NAVIGATE LIFE TEXAS When you’re the main caregiver for your child, those precious minutes can be hard to come by. It might be hard to allow ourselves to take time away from our families. It can be hard to find a qualified person to give care. Even if you find a great caregiver, it can be hard to trust someone else with your child. And it might be hard to figure out how to pay for it. How to contact? If you are feeling overwhelmed, just go to the Find Services, Groups, & Events search page, enter a keyword, and local resources will be listed for you to call, email, or visit their website. You can narrow down your search results by entering your zip code or city to find results near you. https://www.navigatelifetexas.org/en/family-support/connecting-with- other-parents-of-children-with-disabilities TEXAS LIFESPAN RESPITE CARE PROGRAM The Coastal Bend Aging and Disability Resource Center offers various Lifespan Respite services including: Information, Referral and assistance, caregiver training for caregivers of persons with Dementia and caregivers of persons with any type of a disability.
