Questions you can ask a daycare as part of the selection process . ➢ How much does childcare cost? When are payments due? Does the center accept Workforce Solutions (Childcare financial help)? Work Force Solutions 361-882-7491 ext: 421 www.workforcesolutionscb-childcare.org ➢ Licensing / Accreditation Local Child Care Licensing Offices 361-878-3451 www.dfps.state.tx.us • Licensing means the daycare program meets the minimum licensing standards that are set forth by the state (note: standards vary from state to state) • Accreditation means the program meets the standards set forth by national groups like the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC) or the National Association for Education of Young Children. Usually the standards set forth by accreditation are higher than state-licensing regulations. ➢ Staff-to-child ratio • Infants - 1:3 • Toddlers - 1:6 *Ratios considered ideal • Preschool-aged children – 1:15. ➢ How long has the childcare provider been in business? ➢ May I see your state permit and your last inspection? ➢ What’s a typical day like for a child in your care? ➢ What experience and training do you have in caring for children? How do you discipline children? ➢ Does daycare provide transportation, if needed ➢ What are the visitation rules ➢ What are the hours of operation? Is the childcare closed on holidays? What is the cancellation policy if you decide to leave? ➢ How do you handle emergencies, and under what circumstances will you contact me?
