Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) Services Program – made up of several programs that provides services to children with extraordinary medical needs, disabilities, and chronic health conditions. The CSHCN health care benefits program pays for medical care, family support services, and related services not covered by Medicaid, CHIP, private insurance, or other “third party payor”. 800-252-8023 Helps children with special health-care needs and people of any age with cystic fibrosis Assists clients with their: ▪ Medical, dental and mental health care ▪ Prescription Drugs ▪ Special therapies ▪ Case management ▪ Family Support Services – help families take care of CSHCN Services • Respite care • Help with specialized childcare costs related to child’s medical condition • Vehicle modifications such as wheelchair lifts and hand controls • Home modifications such as wheelchair ramps and wider doorways • Special equipment such as stair lifts when they are not covered by a child’s health insurance • Travel to health care visits Eligibility Summary – program is available to anyone who meets this criteria: ▪ Lives in Texas ▪ Is under 21 years old (or any age with cystic fibrosis) ▪ Has a certain medical problem that • Is expected to last at least 12 months • Will limit one or more major life activities • Needs more health care than what children usually need • Has physical symptoms. (the program does not cover clients with only a mental, behavioral or emotional condition, or a delay in development) CSHCN Services Program is the payer of last resort, all applicants must also apply for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Medicaid ▪ Applications to the program can be made year round Government-Funded Organizations Federally Qualifies Health Clinics - provide comprehensive health care services to underserved communities. https://findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov/
