Fast determination of paracetamol and p-aminophenol by capillary and microchip electrophoresis with contactless conductivity detection Hanan Alatawi 1 , Anna Hogan 1 , Ibtihaj Albalawi 1 , Emma O’Sullivan-Carroll 1 , Yineng WangTyndall 2 , Eric Moore 1 1 School of Chemistry, University College Cork, Ireland, 2 National Institute, Cork, Ireland, 3 Tyndall National Institute, Cork, Ireland Paracetamol is one of the most extensively used analgesics and antipyretic drugs to treat mild and moderate pain. p-aminophenol, the main hydrolytic degradation product of paracetamol, can be found in environmental water. Recently, microchip capillary electrophoresis has been developed for the detection of a wide variety of chemical substances. The purpose of this study is to develop a simple and fast method for the detection and separation of paracetamol and its main hydrolysis product p-aminophenol, using microchip capillary electrophoresis with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection. The determination of these compounds using microchip capillary electrophoresis with conductivity detection is reported for the first time. The presented method showed rapid analysis time (less than 1 min), high efficiency and precision, low cost, and a significant decrease in the consumption of reagents.
