Simultaneous electrochemical determination of lead and cadmium based on Nafion-Bismuth film in a water sample Ibtihaj Albalawi, Anna Hogan, Hanan Alatawi and Eric Moore University College Cork (UCC), Ireland 110125574@umail.ucc.ie, annamaria.hogan@ucc.ie, 110122737@umail.ucc.ie, e.moore@ucc.ie In this research, a novel, highly sensitive, simple and environmentally friendly electrode has been developed for the simultaneous determination of Cd (II) and Pb (II) in water samples. The combination of Nafion film and bismuth film has been investigated on a disposable Screen-Printed Gold Electrode surface(SPGE). Electrochemical properties were investigated using anodic stripping square voltammetry. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were carried out for the morphological characterization of the modified electrode. The results presented show excellent stability and good sensitivity with a limit of detection below than the World Health Organization standards (WHO). The linear calibration curves ranged from 20 ppb to 300 ppb for Pb(II), and from 50 ppb to 300 ppb for Cd(II). The detection limits (S/N = 3) were calculated to be 3 ppb for Pb(II) and 4 ppb for Cd(II). This method has also been effectively applied for the determination of Cd (II) and Pb (II) in both river and tap water samples and the results validated by Flame -Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy analysis.
