Each year, the awards celebrate the accom- plishments of the North American label and packaging industry, highlighting excellence in management, sustain- ability, print and individual industry leadership. The awards recognize excellence in all printing pro- cesses, including digital, flexography, gravure, offset, rota- ry screen and multi-process. The winners will be celebrated by being announced at TLMI’s Annual Meeting and showcased at the event. Best in Class and Best in Show will be announced with individ- ual videos. • Legislation is driving changes in packaging. For exam- ple: Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) in Europe is mandating that packaging is Designed for Recy- cling (DfR) and that at least 10 percent of beverage pack- aging is reusable by 2030. • The recycling of packaging and reuse/refill models can make a significant difference. For example, recycled rigid plastics, such as PET and HDPE, are over 70 percent less emissions-intensive than their virgin plastic counter- parts. • A new generation of pressure sensitive labels has a novel “clean-release” functionality that clean separation of the label and inks during the recycling process. This meth- od ensures higher quality recycled materials, which in the case of rigid plastics, like PET and HDPE, allows the upcy- cling of the reused plastic for the production of new bot- tles, reducing the need for virgin materials and increasing brands packaging circularity.
