Welding Fabrication Competition 2025 Welding Fabrication Competition 2025, SkillsUSA Virginia State Championships took place on April 5th at Berglund Center in Roanoke. Skills USA is the #1 workforce development organization for students. The organization has competitions for the different trades throughout the school systems. These competitions are made possible by local industry donating materials, consumables, and staff to help facilitate, judge, and organize. MAAG Gala has been involved in helping with these competitions for more than 20 years. We do this to help give back to the community as well as to help promote and preserve the welding and fabrication trades both of which play a crucial role in the success of MAAG. This level of involvement in our local technical programs is important for our continued growth and hiring strategy. On the day of the competition 6 judges. including Jason VanNess, Welding/Fabrication Team Lead at MAAG EGR, from 4 different businesses spent the entire day making sure rules were followed and deciding what competitor was the best at following the print and making the required welds. The winner was a student from Jackson River Technical Center in Alleghany County about 25 minutes north of our Eagle Rock facility. The winner will have an opportunity to compete at the national competition in June in Atlanta Georgia.
