However, it was when Warne started dating English actress Liz Hurley – a partnership that blossomed from a chance meeting at the races - that his interest in the sport developed further. Hurley and Warne were spotted at racecourses all over the world, from Ascot and Goodwood in the UK to Headquarters down under. The pair even joined with Highclere Racing in the ownership of a filly named Memory, with Hurley and Warne heading to Glorious Goodwood to cheer her on; she was eventually bought by Queen Elizabeth II as a broodmare prospect. When Warne and Hurley arrived at Flemington for the Melbourne Cup Carnival in 2011, it was one of the biggest celebrity couple appearances in a generation, sparking scenes not witnessed since Prince Charles and Princess Diana presented the first Foster’s- sponsored Melbourne Cup to Williams in 1985. Warne’s Super Saturday sojourn last year had encouraged him to embark on an ownership journey once more, becoming a shareholder of the David Vandyke-trained Sacred Oath after being encouraged to join by former AFL player Campbell Brown while the pair locked horns over a game of poker one night.
