THE WHISTLER MARKET The home types referenced for Whistler in the rennie review differ from those in the rest of the Vancouver Region owing to Whistler’s status as a resort municipality and its associated prevalence of second homes and investment properties. A chalet refers to single ownership of a detached home. It excludes fractional ownership. A Residentally-zoned attached property refers to single ownership of an attached home (condo, townhome, duplex, triplex). It excludes fractional ownership and any nightly rental accommodation. Fractional ownership refers to homes that have multiple owners on title with prescribed duration allowances for use (as owner-occupied units or as rentals) over the course of the year. This category would include anywhere from ½ ownership to ⅒ ownership, or less. Unrestricted nightly rental refers to properties with a Phase I covenant on title (which allow for unrestricted short-term rentals). Restricted nightly rental refers to properties with a Phase II on title (which restricts owner use of the home to 28 days during the first six months of the year and another 28 days in the second six months of the year).
