This tradition- al beachwear piece has broken into the mainstream and hit city streets after appearing at Dries Van Noten's Spring/ Summer 2026 menswear show in Par- is. It looks particularly good when worn over patterned ruched trousers, with a simple t-shirt and a raffia bag. Matthieu Blazy presented soleless shoes that appear intentionally unfin- ished at Chanel’s 2027 cruise show. The traditional toe cap has disappeared entirely, with the design relying sole- ly on what this famous fashion house calls a “barefoot heel”. Summer is no longer the season when fashion is simplified; on the contrary, it has be- come a space for experimentation, playfulness and pushing the bound- aries between summer holiday at- tire and everyday life. At a time when luxury is being defined less by the amount of material and more by atti- tude, the season’s most desirable piec- es aren’t necessarily those that add de- tails, but rather those that take them away. Fewer layers, fewer rules, few- er expectations. Whether you opt for a glamorous bikini with metallic de- tails, a sarong to wear around town or Chanel’s almost invisible shoes, the message is the same: this summer’s fashion isn’t asking you to hide. In contrast, it is celebrating the art of dis- covery, and inviting us to reconsider what it really means to be clothed.
