drinks, they’re a blessing. One of the greatest blessings God has giv en us is intoxicating liquor. Per haps we wouldn’t have all these misformed ‘babies’ now if people, instead of taking different tran quilizers, would have used a little alcohol instead.” All we can say is that it appears all the lunatics are not in the insane asylums. The Bible says in the words of Al mighty God, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging, and who ever is deceived thereby is not wise.” “And be not drunk with wine wherein is excess, but be filled with the Spirit.” * He who gets weary of God has never found Him! * * * THE HIGH COST OF PRAYER One of the best ways to prepare missionaries is to pray for mis sions. By praying for the whitened harvest fields our lives are bound to be changed. Try it, but only do so if you are willing to pay the price. I t may be a very costly ex periment. I f you are of the right age He may well thrust you out to the field yourself. You may feel compelled to give up what this world calls “essentials”; they may come to be nothing more than lux uries to you, that others may be trained for His service. When William Carey began to pray for the conversion of the lost in foreign lands, it cost him him self. When David Brainerd prayed for America’s dark-skinned savages in the early days of our country, it cost him his life, after only two years of service, before he was thirty years of age. L ift up your eyes and look unto the fields that are ripe unto harvest . . . and pray ye the Lord of the harvest! * It's a poor way to get exercise by jumping to conclusions. * * * *

GRASS ON THE PRAYER TRACK

One well known spiritual coun selor recently stated, "Ninety-five per cent of the troubles Christian people experience today, can gen erally be traced back to the fact that they have stopped their times of personal devotions.” Over in Africa, native Christians have discovered that in order to gain privacy for their spiritual re lationship to the Lord, they find a little spot in the bush behind their huts, away from the noise of the village settlement. As they faithfully resort to those places of fellowship a well-worn path is soon found in the dirt. Sometimes, how ever, the track becomes grown over with weeds, whereupon, so the mis sionary teUs us, one Christian m i g h t admonish his neighbor, "Brother, there is grass covering your prayer track!” A very practi cal word. How is it with us? Does grass, or rather the busy cares of this life, cover over the path to the secret place with Christ? May God help us never to forsake this blessed privilege of meeting with the Lord day by day! * * * The most powerful weapon on earth is the human soul set on fire for God! * * * THE FOLLY OF ALCOHOL One of the great tragedies of our land is the fact that we are fast becoming a nation, not of "alcohol ics anonymous,” but of "alcoholics unanimous.” Recently the Neio York Daily News carried a column by TV writer, Kay Gardella. She quoted a statement made by a clergyman concerning t e en a g.e drinking. Unbelievably, he is pur ported to have said, " There has been a proposal in New York to raise the legal drinking age from 18 to 21, as is required in neigh boring states. I f we are brought up to appreciate intelligently these
