R egain Y our P ower CLEAR YOUR MIND TO ELIMINATE STRESS

APRIL 2024

In our fast-paced world, stress has become an all too familiar companion for many individuals. From the pressures of work and personal responsibilities to the constant bombardment of information and expectations, it is very easy to feel overwhelmed. Taxes were due April 15; some individuals get a tax refund, and others end up with tax liabilities. April is Stress Awareness Month, so let’s strive to acknowledge our triggers and how to keep them at bay. Stress is a constant in my life, and this is how I manage it. Dealing with stress means opening yourself up by sharing your thoughts and concerns. One tip I received years ago and that I still use to this day is to ask myself if this is a problem that can be solved now; if not, there is no sense in letting it ruin my day or keep me up all night. Another question I ask myself is if this problem is big or small, not just in my head, but in reality. By doing this, I am able to keep problems from being bigger in my mind than they are in reality. I can feel some of you rolling your eyes at how simple this is and how it could not possibly help you manage your stress, but give it a try — it has worked wonders for me. Something else that helps me manage stress is making a plan of action or a to-do list. This makes me feel like I am taking or regaining control of a situation. I try to change my mindset and remember that things are not just happening to me. I am making things happen. And often the most challenging situations provide the greatest opportunity for growth and success. I deeply believe that many of the “worst” things that happen to us are blessings in disguise (or “blessings in the sky” as my foreign-born mother always says). For example, during the pandemic, I worried about how our business would survive and how we would continue to employ our fabulous staff. I felt deeply responsible for the financial well-being

of those who made the choice to come to work every day and help our clients. When everything shut down, I panicked. Our phones stopped ringing. The courts were closed. We didn’t know if we would be able to service our clients. But we sat down and made a road map for how to proceed and implemented that plan. The end result was incredible growth for our firm. Going through a divorce is one of the most stressful things anyone can go through. It’s an emotional roller coaster. The process and outcome are unknown. One way to help alleviate some of the stress is to make a list of advisors to help you through the process, like an attorney, a financial planner, a therapist, an accountant, etc. Retain the professionals who can help you. Then meet with them and make a to-do list of how you can take control of the small steps in the process. You meet any greater goal by taking the necessary small steps to achieve the desired outcome.

STRESS IS A CONSTANT IN MY LIFE, AND THIS IS HOW I MANAGE IT. DEALING WITH STRESS MEANS OPENING YOURSELF UP BY SHARING YOUR THOUGHTS AND CONCERNS.”

Spring is a time of renewal, blooming flowers, and rejuvenation. Revitalize your home this season with a few easy DIY ideas.

ADD SPLASHES OF COLOR. Nothing says spring like bright, fresh colors. A fresh coat of paint will change the dynamic of any room; try painting an accent wall with greens, blues, and yellows. You can also use colorful pillows, vases, and other accessories to brighten a room. GET NEW HOUSEPLANTS. Bright-colored flowering plants and multi-shaped green leaves bring spring to any space. Whether natural or artificial, they’re a great way to make any room livelier.

REARRANGE THE FURNITURE. Shifting your furniture around is a great way to invite spring into your home. Try moving your furnishings so more light comes in. It doesn’t take a lot to rejuvenate your home for spring. These quick tips will add light, brightness, and color to your surroundings.

A nother A mazing M ember of O ur T eam SPOTLIGHTING SARA our team. She enjoys the teamwork and the support we offer her. Our office is often well-loved by our team, and she’s no different.

“Everyone is super nice and friendly to get along with,” she says.

Before joining us, she worked as a billing coordinator for a hotel, an account manager, and a sales team member. Needless to say, she definitely has experience in the realm of numbers. She’s looking forward to learning even more about it within our office, and we’re happy to provide that opportunity.

We’re nothing without our team, and we want to spotlight another member who helps the office run smoothly. Sara, our amazing bill coordinator, reviews and edits all the legal teams’ billable time, sending out invoices each week to ensure our hard work is paid for. She issues and processes refund checks and handles billing disputes and client concerns.

“Just trying to grow within the role,” she says.

When not working alongside us, she’s spending time outdoors. Hiking, paddleboarding, kayaking, she’s game for it all. If she can rope her family into it, that’s even better. She’s learning how to cook properly, trying to bake up her Italian favorites like lasagna and pizza. If you’re on the same journey, feel free to offer any suggestions to hone this technique or offer other recipes. We’re so glad to have Sara take charge of bill coordination as this is the backbone of our business. Without keeping the numbers straight, we can’t focus on our clients. She streamlines these processes, and we’re so appreciative. Thanks, Sara!

She’s been working alongside us since October 2023 and has been such a welcome addition to

A P arent ’ s G uide to P eace TEACH KIDS TO NAVIGATE CONFLICT

FOSTER ‘FUN’ CONFLICT-RESOLUTION EXPERIENCES IN THE HOME. Parents wield the magic wand in conflict resolution play. Organize family activities that mimic real-life conflict scenarios, like board games with rules that spark disagreements. These friendly bouts teach your child the art of keeping their cool under pressure. And don’t forget about the power of make-believe! Encourage your child to stage a conflict resolution drama. It’s not just fun; it’s a crash course in diplomacy. Remember, every successful conflict your child conquers will give them confidence. By imparting these skills early on, you gift them tools for a lifetime of harmonious interactions, both personally and professionally. So, let’s embark on this valuable conflict resolution journey together — the world will be a better place.

When you hear the word “conflict” in the context of kids, you might think of schoolyard bullies or having to ground your kid. However, children have their own disputes, ranging from toddler tussles over toys to digital duels between pre-teens. While they are undeniably challenging, conflicts provide kids the chance to learn life lessons. They encourage young minds to put on their detective hats, explore new perspectives, reevaluate old ideas, and even cement the bonds of friendship. Use the following strategies to equip your child with the superpower of conflict resolution. EMPOWER PEACEMAKERS Conflict resolution skills are the compass that guides kids through the maze of life’s disputes. Here’s a map to help your child navigate these tricky waters:

calming the storm within. Reacting in a frenzy of anger is like tossing gasoline on a fire. Speak Your Truth: Encourage your child to explain their side of the story in clear and simple words. Understanding each other’s viewpoints is key to conflict resolution. Get Creative: Foster their inner Picasso of problem-solving. Encourage them to brainstorm solutions that cater to everyone’s wishes, like a culinary mastermind crafting the perfect dish. Choose Respect: Teach your child the importance of treating others kindly, even when disagreements threaten to capsize the boat.

These steps help kids patch up the current squabbles and cultivate emotional intelligence — a shield against future conflicts and a bridge to tolerance.

Pause and Reflect: Teach your child the art of taking a deep breath and
