2024 Summer Program Guide

ART ON TUESDAY MORNINGS Come and join our weekly drop-in art group from 9:00-11:30 am. We work in all mediums including watercolor, oils, acrylics, colored pencils, mosaics and more. This art group is appropriate for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. BOOK CLUB You’re invited to a lively discussion of books on the third Thursday of the month from 10:30 am-noon. Participants choose a list of books and discuss one each month. Come prepared with your suggestions. If you like to read and share your thoughts on chosen books, this group is for you. BOOK EXCHANGE We are always happy to receive your donations of books at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center. Books are located in the Game Room. BUNCO CLUB Bunco is an old parlor dice game. Please join us on the first and third Wednesday of the month from 1:00-3:00 pm CANASTA CLUB Our Canasta Club plays Hand and Foot version from 11:30 am-3:00 pm every Monday. Participants need to know how to play the game. The drop-in format does not provide on the spot lessons or instructions on how to play the game. If it has been a while since you’ve played, you are welcome to sit and observe for a few weeks to get yourself comfortable to join the group. CRIBBAGE CLUB The Cribbage Club meets the the second and the fourth Thursday of the month from 9:30 am-noon. Participants need to know how to play the game. The drop-in format does not provide on the spot lessons or instructions on how to play the game. DOMINOES CLUB The Dominoes Club meets every Friday from 9:00-11:30 am to play Mexican Train Dominoes. Participants need to know how to play the game. If it has been a while since you’ve played, you are welcome to sit and observe for a few weeks to get yourself comfortable to join the group. DROP-IN WOODCARVING If you like to work with your hands and you like working with wood, you will enjoy this group. Bring your own materials and tools. The fun is in the creation. This program meets every Tuesday from 9:00 am until noon. DUPLICATE BRIDGE Duplicate Bridge meets on Tuesdays from 8:30 am-noon at the Fort Hill Activity Center and Fridays from 5:30-9:00 pm at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center. Participants need to know how to play the game. The drop-in format does not provide on the spot lessons or instructions on how to play the game. If you plan to join this Friday group but have not played before, free beginner lessons are available SOME Thursdays from 12:00-2:00 pm by appointment only. The drop-in format does not provide on the spot lessons. PINOCHLE If you enjoy playing Pinochle and would like to meet some new people, you can become a part of the group. They meet on Tuesdays and Fridays from noon to 3:00 pm. Participants need to know how to play the game. *POOL (Billiards) Pool is available Monday-Friday from 8:30 am-4:00 pm. Reservations are not required; just bring a friend. SOCIAL BRIDGE Social Bridge is held every Tuesday from 1:00-3:30 pm and Thursday from noon- 3:00 pm. Come and join this exciting club. Participants need to know how to play the game. If it has been a while since you’ve played, you are welcome to sit and observe for a few weeks to get yourself comfortable to join the group. *TABLE TENNIS Calling all table tennis fans! A table is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 am-4:00 pm in the game room. Find a partner and join us for some fun and exercise. WALKING CLUB Each Monday at 9:30 am, the walking group will gather at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center upstairs lobby to take a refreshing walk in our surrounding parks and neighborhoods or along the Riverwalk. When the sidewalks and paths are icy, the group meets at an indoor location such as a mall. The group leader will make that determination and contact members when the group will begin to walk indoors. If you are new, please call 630-848-5000 to confirm the departure location. *NEW IN 2024 Due to the popularity of Pool (Billiards) and Table Tennis, a reservation system is now being used via a sign-in sheet at the RCC front desk. No advanced reservations either in person or over the phone; only on-the- spot reservations for one hour to make it fair for all users. Check in at the front counter and ask for the reservation sheet.
