difficulties w ill be fear. Satan sees to that. You will be tempted to fear failure, to fear ridicule, to fear your ignorance of the Bible, to fear your lack of ability, to fear driving sinners away from God, and to fear your own inconsistent influence. Fear is lack of faith.' “Perfect lové casteth out fear” (1 John 4:18). It is not a sin to fail to win a soul, but it is a sin riot to try.—Roland Q. Leavell. 17. An Unrescinded Command "Go ye therefore, and teach all na tions, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost . . . and, lo, I am with you alway” (Matt. 20:19, 20). The call to a true and rich evan gelism does not cease or change in time of war. The command and the promise: “ Seek ye first" the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you,” (Matt. 6:33), remain absolute, under any coriceivable conditions of human life, however outwardly disastrous. —L. W. Grensted. Heavenly Stirring “As an eagle stirreth up her nest” (Deut. 32:11). The mother eagle wrecks the nest To make her fledglings fly; But watches each, with Wings out stretched And fierce maternal eye; And swoops if any fail to soar, And lands them on the crag once more. So God at times breaks up our nest, Lest, sunk in slothful ease, Our soul’s wings moult and lose the zest For battle with the breeze: But ever waits With arms of love, To bear our souls all ills above. —John Oxenham. 19. Spiritual Warfare “ For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 6:23). As an Indian evangelist was preach ing, a flippant youth interrupted him. “You tell about the burden of sin. I feel none. How heavy is it? Eighty pounds?'Ten pounds?” The preacher answered, “Tell me, if you laid a four-hundred-pound weight on a corpse, would it feel the load?” “No, because it is dead,” replied the youth. The preacher said, “That spirit, too, is dead which feels no load of sin.” —Record of Christian Work. 20. The Influence of Faith “ Fgr by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Eph. 2:8, 9). Faith is, at once, the power of min- 18.

14. Wholly His “ If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are” (1 Cor. 3:17). Holiness is likeness to God, and to His Christ. Holiness or consecration extends to every part of one’s person. It fills up our being, influences every thing we are, or do, or think, or speak, or plan—small or great, outward or inward, negative or positive. It influ ences our loving, our hating, our re joicing, our recreations, our business, our friendship, our relationships, our silence, our writing, our going out and coming in—our whole man in every movement of spirit, soul, and body. * —Selected. Fear Not, Thou Worm! “Not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God . . . hath chosen the weak things of the world to con found the things which are mighty” (1 Cor. 1:26, 27). Consider how God treats those who feel their own nothingness and depend entirely on Him. “ Fear riot, thou worm Jacob . . ’ . I w ill help thee . . thou shalt thresh the mountains” (Isa. 41: 14,15). The mighty powers that threat en the kingdom of God give way be fore what John Milton calls “ the uh- resistible might of weakness.” Only when we realize our emptiness can God fill us; only when we realize'our impotence can He endow us with His power.—Augustus H. Strong. 16. Afraid to Witness? “ For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1:7). The most difficult person with whom you will have to deal in soul-winning is yourself. One of the most serious 15.
