definite means of having it and of strengthening it through His Word; in it we “feed on his faithfulness.” The Bible - centered Christian, constantly letting God talk to him, will find him self thereby more and more “kept by the power of God.” —Norman B. Harrison. A Song Amid Testing “ For t h o u h a s t girded me with strength unto the battle” (Psa. 18:39, R. V.). The strength of the vessel can be demonstrated only by the hurricane, and the power of the gospel can be fully shown only when the Christian is subjected to some fiery trial. If God would make manifest, the fact that He “giveth songs in the night,” He must first make it night. —William Taylor. 29. Glory Unveiled “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory” (Jude 24). “Glory”—there is a m a r v e l o u s wealth in this word. Who can show forth all His glory? It is not a mythi cal, nebulous thing; it is an exceeding and eternal weight of glory, far .heav ier than all our light afflictions which are but momentary compared with this eternal bliss. It is the glory of Jesus, God incarnate, forever shining. There He sits in all His august splen dor, and we shall see Him without a veil between. —William Hazer Wrighton. 30. The Cross and the Tomb “It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at- the right hand of God, who also mak- eth intercession for us” (Rom. 8:34). “He died,” saith the Cross; “my very name Was a hated thing and a word of shame; But since Christ hung on my arms outspread, With nails in His hands and thorns on HiS head, They do but measure—set high, flung wide— The measureless love of the Cruci fied.” . “He rose,” saith the Tomb; “I was dark and drear, And the sound of my name wove a spell of fear; But the Lord of Life in my depths hath lain To break Death’s power and rend his chain; And a light streams forth from my open door, For the Lord is risen; He dies no more.” —Annie Johnson Flint. 28.

selves, and our afflictions are the price we pay for our ability to sym pathize. He who would be a helper must first be a sufferer. We cannot have the highest happiness of life in succoring others without tasting the cup which the Lord Jesus drank. —The Treasury. 26. The Shepherd and His Sheep “And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice” (John 10:4). It is cheering to remember that for the sake of His own Name, and of His own glory, as for the sake of His ovfrn love, the full supply of all our needs is guaranteed by our relationship to Him as our Shepherd. A lean, scraggy sheep, with tom limbs and tattered fleece, would be small credit to the shepherd’s care. Unless we will wan der from Him, and will not remain restfully under His protection, there is no fear of such ever being our lot. —J. Hudson Taylor. 27. No Room for Fear “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised” (Heb. 10:23). Fear must give way to faith. Faith reckons on His faithfulness, and re leases it on our behalf. Unbelief, as exhibited by fear, hinders and even precludes His working, Faith counts Him the All-Sufficient One, and lays hold of His sufficiency. But how shall we have faith? God has provided a
