The public space revolves around the void of the lower floor, and is designed throughout the gardens that link the three environments: those on Alcántara Ave., the EuroAmérica building and the Embassy of England. At the same time, the visual relationships that occur around the building connect it with other architectural landmarks of the context. This condition of territorial proposal allows for the creation of a “new place”. The structure expresses its “load flow”, a system of frames where the slabs are supported by post-tensioned concrete suspenders carrying the loads to the upper metal beams, which finally transfer them to the 12 external concrete columns through compression. In this case the elevator and escalator core is only responsible for seismic loads.
The use of water, besides affecting the sensory aspect of the user by offering reflective sound and movement operates as an environmental factor especially in the summer months. The bareness of the materials is crucial to the structural expression. The concrete columns and the crystal curtain wall system are the two essential materials. The columns are slanted to the north following the slope of the EuroAmérica building that precedes it, and the absence of the floor levels on the curtain wall design reinforce the integrity of the suspended cube. Natural light bathes the whole interior of the floor plan, which favors circulation spaces along the perimeter curtain wall. The skylights on the upper level allow for meeting rooms and multiple use workstations.
