La globalidad, simultaneidad y complejidad que caracterizan la educación contemporánea –y de las que Arica no está exenta– requerían de una interrelación de espacios fluidos y flexibles, de un soporte que entregara una continuidad narrativa de múltiples entradas y recorridos que estimulen el encuentro y los roces entre sus habitantes. Por eso se concibió un edificio que invite a ser recorrido, una “promenade architecturale”, con un recorrido ascendente que ofrezca perspectivas dinámicas y en cambio constante, pero que a su vez haga fácilmente comprensible al visitante todo el programa que contiene y se integre visualmente al campus a la manera de los Aularios Campus Juan Gómez Millas de la Universidad de Chile en Santiago. El zeitgeist antes descrito, sumado a la oportunidad de resolver el aislamiento y normalización de evacuación del edificio de salas inconcluso, al desnivel que presenta el terreno de este proyecto respecto al eje principal de circulación que atraviesa el campus Saucache, llevó a pensar en un edificio conector como el edificio Taller de Herramientas FAD de la Universidad Finis Terrae. Una operación proyectual de conexión, a la manera del Carpenter Center de Artes Visuales en Boston o la consulta del Dr. Curutchet en La Plata. The globalism, simultaneity and complexity that characterize contemporary education –of which Arica participates– required a relationship between fluid and flexible spaces, a support that could deliver a continuous narrative of multiple entrances and circulations to encourage the meeting and contact between its inhabitants. Therefore we conceived a building meant to be covered, as in a “promenade architecturale” , with an ascending path that offers dynamic and constantly changing perspectives, but that in turn offers the visitor an easily understandable functional program, visually integrated into the campus in the manner of the Juan Gómez Millas Campus halls of the Universidad de Chile in Santiago. The zeitgeist described above, plus the opportunity to solve the isolation and improve on one hand the evacuation standards of the unfinished classroom buildings and on the other the level difference between the site for this project and the main circulation axis of the Saucache campus, led to conceive a connecting building similar to the FAD Tools Workshop building of the Universidad Finis Terrae. A connective design operation, like the Carpenter Center for Visual Arts in Boston or the office for Dr. Curutchet in La Plata.
