During her brief first visit to Chile, invited by the local InStudio office, the founding partner of the Barcelona studio EMBT met with design and architecture professionals and students to show how works such as the unavoidable Scottish Parliament and Santa Caterina Market in Barcelona are created. Benedetta Tagliabue (se pronuncia Tagliabúe) es imparable, sea por sus viajes por el mundo, por las labores como presidenta de la Fundación Miralles y sobre todo por su trabajo como cabeza de Miralles Tagliabue EMBT, que siembra obras por Europa y también en Asia, donde el estudio abrió sucursal hace algunos años (en Shanghai). La arquitecta milanesa vive en Barcelona desde 1989. Eso fue tras graduarse en el Instituto Universitario de Arquitectura de Venecia, hacer su tesis doctoral en Nueva York y conocer al notable arquitecto catalán Enric Miralles, con quien se casó y luego se asoció para formar Miralles Tagliabue EMBT en 1991. Tal como se ha escrito, el trabajo del taller “se caracteriza por el equilibrio entre una estética fragmentada y convulsa y el respeto por la tradición del lugar, idea que Miralles supo transmitir a Benedetta” y que ella ha seguido plasmando en los 15 años que lleva a la cabeza del estudio, tras la muerte de Miralles el 2000. De su manera de trabajar es de lo que conversó con el equipo editorial de Revista AOA, mostrando cómo, si bien hasta hoy sigue su huella, Benedetta Tagliabue nunca estuvo a la sombra de Miralles. As it has been written, the work of the workshop “is characterized by a balance between a fragmented and troubled aesthetics and respect for the tradition of the place, an idea that Miralles was able to transmit Benedetta” and that she has continued to shape in the 15 years she has been head of the studio after the death of Miralles in 2000. Her work practice was the topic of the conversation with the editorial team of AOA Magazine, showing how, although until today it carries his legacy, Benedetta Tagliabue was never in the shadow of Miralles.
