PATIO CONTEMPLACIÓN ACCESO / CONTEMPLATION COURTYARD ACCESS
- Nuevo volumen: de tres niveles y un subterráneo, se entiende como una caja elemental, opaca y hermética, a la manera de los galpones de las estancias magallánicas; se distancia del edificio de la Dirección Regional de Gendarmería por medio de un vacío que establece un nuevo acceso al complejo y que constituye una delicada continuidad con la fachada existente, por medio de una interpretación de las líneas y el ritmo de llenos y vacíos del edificio histórico. Se abre a través de una piel traslúcida hacia el edificio de la ex Cárcel, para proveer de una apreciación de los muros exteriores de dicho edificio desde el circuito de recorridos interiores del archivo. - Articulaciones: la conjugación de los volúmenes existentes y proyectados y los vacíos intersticiales se resuelven a través de una serie de articulaciones, entendidas como cajas de cristal que se intersectan delicadamente con los cuerpos macizos para permitir un circuito de circulaciones interiores continuo. La biblioteca, corazón de la intervención, se dispone en el espacio central de la ex Cárcel a partir de un anillo de salas de lectura y la consideración del vacío central, que albergará un volumen habitable de estanterías para las colecciones generales de acceso libre así como para las colecciones de referencia de acceso controlado. - New volume: with three levels and a basement, it is revealed as an elemental, opaque and enclosed box like a Magellan farm shed; it stands apart from the building of the Regional Prison Directorate by means of a space that defines a new access to the complex. A reinterpretation of the lines and the rhythm of solid and voids of the historical building establishes a delicate continuity with the existing facade. It opens up to the building of the former prison with a translucent skin, to provide an appreciation of the exterior walls of the building from the interior circulation spaces of the archive. - Articulations: the combination of existing and new volumes and interstitial voids are organized by means of a series of articulations, presented as glass boxes that gently intersect with the massive bodies to enable a continuous internal circulation circuit. The library, heart of the intervention, is placed in the central space of the former prison as a ring of reading rooms and a central void, which will host a habitable volume of shelves for the general collections as well as the reference collections with controlled access.
