THE BATTLE OF VENICE
- ¿Es el sello que buscaste imprimir en la Bienal de Venecia con el llamado de “reportando desde el frente”? ¿Significa dar la respuesta adecuada incluso a preguntas que pueden estar equivocadas? Identificar preguntas que importen y dar buenas respuestas cuesta, es complejo, difícil y hasta ingrato. Implica una cierta pelea, la batalla. Y supone que quienes hayan enfrentado estas batallas puedan compartir cómo lo hicieron para lograr una propuesta de valor, como en el caso de Constitución. Se busca compartir casos, herramientas, estrategias, experiencias, de manera tal que al volver a tu lugar de origen lo hagas con más armas, con dimensiones que quizá ni te imaginabas pertinentes para tu lugar de origen. Poder anticiparte a ver que un problema que hoy no existe en tu realidad, está latente... Si compartes los conflictos tienes capacidad anticipatoria, y eventualmente compartes conocimientos replicables en otros contextos. Más que compartir la investigación, se necesitan experiencias. Eso es reportar desde el frente. - ¿Cómo fue recibido el llamado? ¿Se respondió según lo que habías visualizado? El título funcionó bien, algo así como “dónde te aprieta el zapato”. Por un lado ordena: hablemos de cosas difíciles, de controversias y de qué hiciste para hacerte cargo. Pero también es un llamado suficientemente amplio para que todos los problemas tengan cabida: temas de inmigración, ambientales, económicos... La migración en Europa no es un tema de arquitectos, afecta a todos quienes tienen inmigrantes y van a querer ir a ver en la Bienal qué ideas existen para abordarlo. Y también alude al país de origen: qué pudiste hacer para cambiar las condiciones de inequidad que empujan el desplazamiento de población. En general funcionó porque ha gatillado temáticas que son discusión de las sociedades, no de los arquitectos. En cualquier caso quise centrar el llamado en la calidad del entorno construido, ni siquiera en la arquitectura, porque incluye espacios públicos, infraestructura, incluso el territorio. Y es la calidad del entorno construido lo que, desde nuestro ámbito, puede contribuir a la calidad de vida, así como hay otros que diseñan políticas económicas o

Overall it worked because it has triggered issues discussed by societies, not by architects. In any case I wanted to focus the call on the quality of the built environment, not even on architecture, because it includes public spaces, infrastructure, even the territory. And it is the quality of the built environment, which, from our field, can contribute to the quality of life, as there are others who design efficient economic or social policies or scientific inventions.
