La Casona es la pieza fundamental, por sus características físicas y por la manzana que ha configurado y las distintas funciones y piezas que articula en un campus universitario. Estos edificios preexistentes determinan los grados de tolerancia con los cuales el nuevo edificio debe definirse. Al emplazarse en la esquina norponiente se identifica el plomo del edificio de la Escuela de Diseño como límite propuesto de la estructura del nuevo edificio. Esta operación busca condicionar una continuidad entre ambos hacia la calle Carlos Casanueva y también entregar a la calle el antejardín y sus árboles. El edificio de Diseño, el actual edificio de Talleres de la Escuela de Arquitectura define el límite poniente del nuevo edificio. Se propone reducir la altura hacia Carlos Casanueva para cuidar la relación que existe con el barrio. Hacia el interior del campus el límite es marcado por la altura máxima del Plan Maestro para configurar un vacío importante entre los tres edificios.
The Manor House is the foundational piece of the campus, both for its physical characteristics, for the block it has configured and the various functions and parts it articulates into a university campus. These pre-existing buildings determine the limits within which the new building should be defined. Its location at the northwest corner confirms the building line of the Design School building as the proposed limit of the structure of the new construction. This operation seeks to establish continuity between both buildings on Carlos Casanueva Street and also give over to the public space of the street the front yards and its trees. The Design building and the current workshops building of the school of architecture define the western boundary. The proposal lowers the height towards Carlos Casanueva Street to safeguard the relationship with the neighborhood. To the interior of the campus the height limit is marked by the maximum dimension as specified by the master plan, setting up an important void between the three buildings.
