The Housemaster
Alex has been Housemaster since April 2019 following the departure of Tony O’Connor. Alex joined College in 2018, teaching ESOL and English. Her desire to take a greater role in the wider school community and pastoral care of students led to her stepping up as Housemaster. House culture is paramount in her view, building a community of mutual support where individuality is valued and successes applauded. Originally from the United Kingdom, Alex, her husband and two sons are settled in New Zealand after four years working in Brunei. Deputy Housemaster Kirsty Howatson
Originally from Scotland, Kirsty Howatson has been living in New Zealand for the past eight years. While the beautiful landscapes are similar, she believes that the weather in Aotearoa is a big improvement. Initially, Kirsty studied Veterinary Medicine in Glasgow before travelling and visiting New Zealand for the first time. She then returned to the UK to study Biology and Education at the University of Stirling. Kirsty completed her first year of teaching in Scotland before spending two years teaching at St George’s – the British International School in Köln (Cologne), Germany, and then finally settling in Christchurch. She has been a member of Condell’s House since joining Christ’s College, initially working under the leadership of Tony O’Connor and now Alex Robertson. Seeing the House as “an amazing place to be a part of”, Kirsty looks forward to
working together with staff and boys. Email : khowatson@christscollege.com
