The actions are aimed at changing the current paradigm of the area: from an extreme fragmentation of space mainly resulting from transportation projects, the proposal effectively reformulates certain routes and flows to consolidate the Marketplaces Esplanade as a clear and unified urban piece capable of articulating the territory of the three municipalities, Santiago, Recoleta and Independencia, and of bringing forward both banks of the Mapocho river, certainly different, in more harmonious and balanced conditions. The proposed modifications generate a new ground with the river as the axis and presence on both margins, embraced on its east and west ends by the public transport flows of Independencia and Recoleta while two new wide-ranging pedestrian north south corridors cross at the center. To the north it will be bordered by Artesanos street and by Cardenal Caro on the south. This new urban ground will be the platform which the surrounding heritage buildings will embrace and where new public spaces will be created: the Heritage Esplanade, at the western edge; the Mapocho-La Chimba y Arboleda Park on the south bank, which will connect the tree lines of Parque Forestal and Parque de Los Reyes; Paseo Tirso de Molina on the north bank as a gastronomic promenade; and Sillares Square, surrounding the market.
