boys, both having accepted Christ as Saviour. While they are brothers, still they are. very different. Here they are. They are entirely different in their looks, - as well as in their actions. I wish Pete could learn the lesson which Christ taught about forgiving people. Whenever some one does something un kind to Pete, it is hard for him to for give and forget. Notice that when I scratch him, the mark of my fingernail remains. I take my finger and softly try to smooth out the scratch, but he still keeps a faint impression of it. He is like people, who when asked to forgive some one, say, “I’ll forgive, hut I’ll never forget.” This is not the kind of Christian that pleases Christ. Pat is entirely different from his brother. When he is scratched, he does not keep the impression at all. You can poke and hit him all you want to, and still he does not keep any remembrance M a tth e w 8:1 4 A n d w h e n J e s u s w a s c om e in to P e te r ’» h o u s e / h e s a w h is w if e ’s m o th e r la id , a n d s ic k o f a fe v e r. 15 A n d h e to u c h e d h e r h a n d , a n d th e f e v e r le f t : h e r : a n d s h e a r o s e , a n d m in is te r e d n n to th e m . ,16 W h e n th e e v e n w a s co m e, , th e y b r o u g h t u n to h im m a n y t h a t w e r e p o s s e s s e d w ith d e v ils : a n d h e c a s t o u t th e s p ir it s w ith h is w o rd , a n d h e a le d a l l t h a t w e r e s ic k : 17 T h a t i t m ig h t b e f u lf ille d w h ic h w a s s p o k e n b y E s h ia s th e p r o p h e t, s a y in g , H im s e lf to o k o u r in f irm itie s , a n d b a r e o u r s ic k n e s s e s . 18 N ow w h e n J e s u s s a w g r e a t m u lti tu d e s a b o u t h im , h e g a v e c o m m a n d m e n t to d e p a r t u n to th e o th e r sid e. 19 A n d a c e r ta in s c r ib e c am e , a n d s a id u n to h im , M a s te r, I w ill fo llo w • th e e w h ith e r s o e v e r th o u g o e s t. 20 A n d J e s u s s a ith u n to h im , T h e fo x e s h a v e h b le s , a n d th e b ir d s o f th e a i r h a v e n e s ts ; h u t th e S on o f m a n h a t h n o t w h e r e to la y h is hea d* 21 A nd a n o t h e r o f h fs d is c ip le s s a id u n to h im , L o rd , s u f f e r m e f i r s t t o g o a n d b u r y m y f a th e r . 22 B u t J e s u s s a id u n to h im , F o llo w m e t a n d 1 le t th e d e a d b u r y t h e i r d e a d , 23 A n d w h e n h e w a s e n te r e d in to a s h ip , h is d is c ip le s fo llo w e d h im . 24 A n d , b e h o ld , th e r e a r o s e a g r e a t te m p e s t In t h e s e a , in s o m u c h t h a t th e s h ip w a s c o v e re d w ith th e w a v e s : b u t h e w a s a s le e p . 25 A n d h is d is c ip le s c am e to h im , a n d a w o k e h im , s a y in g , L o rd , s a v e n s : w e p e ris h . 26 A n d h e s a it h u n to th e m , W h y a r e y è f e a r f u l, .*O y e o f l i t t l e f a i th ? of it. When asked to forgive some one, he says, “Sure! It didn’t hurt much. Perhaps‘i,t was as much my fault as yours.” . The Christian who forgives and for gets is the one who pleases Christ most. If we forgive others, we will be obey ing part of what is meant by Christ’s command in Matthew 7:12: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.” plishment. There was never a failure from any cause, whether insufficient faith in the patient, or the lack of power in Himself. His. was the touch of sym pathetic understanding, compassionate love, divine power, and full and com plete restoration. The woman arose at once and “ministered unto them.” And ministering to “them,” she was minis tering to “him,” as the Revised Version renders this passage. This is a lesson for us today; if we have been touched by the healing hand of our Lord, we are to acknowledge it by ministering to others in the health and strength of that divine touch. We receive in order that we may give (cf. Psa. 40:1-4; 103). n . C asting O ut D emons (16, 17) In the evening, “they brought unto him” those in need of His grace and power. Always there are around us those with shadows in their lives, dis couragement upon their spirits.. Diffi cult problems are faced by many —, problems unsolvable by any human wis dom. But the Lord Jesus has a solution for eyery one. The very best Christian service is that which “brings” men and women to Jesus and allows Him to deal with those in need. Demons, we should note, are real, supernatural, and vicious beings, a part of Satan’s forces, and held in check only by the power of God. They are far more than a match for human strength, but the Christian can successfully war against them with the weapons God pro vides—the Sword of the Spirit and the prayer in the Spirit (cf. Eph. 6:10-18; Jude 20). Along with the poor demoniacs there were many sick people brought to Jesus, all of whom He healed with a word.
