but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and SHUT THEIR EYES, etc.” As we pointed out at the outset, this commission, sad in its results, was quoted in all four Gospels and also in the Book of Acts, a fact which should particularly call our attention to what the Lord would have us know from it. It was largely this kind of result that attended the ministry of the Son of God Himself, and yet of those whom the Father gave Him He did not lose any. Oh, that our God may be vindicated in us and in our message! The test is not in the size of the crowds or the publicity we get. It is not in the qual ity of our homiletical approach, and it is not in the number of visible results obtained, but that our God may be glori fied and vindicated! That we may preach Him with our lips and express Him in our lives in such an unmistakable way, whether at home or in the regions beyond, that He may be universally known among the nations and the num ber of His elect filled up! In connection with my recent senes of articles on the Seventy Weeks of Daniel’s prophecy, inquiry has been made about a certain point which evi dently was not made sufficiently clear. The problem concerns the first clause , of verse 26, of Daniel 9, which in the Authorized Version reads as follows: “And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off.” This seems to say that Messiah would die at the end of the firr'- 62 Weeks instead of at the end of the first 69 Weeks, as my articles set forth. The explanation is as follows: It should be noticed that verse 25 divides the first 69 Weeks into two distinct periods: “Unto the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks.” This should be kept clearly in mind as we come to the next verse which reads as follows in the" American Revised Version: “And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off” (cf. the He brew). That Is to say, Messiah will be cut off after the 62 Weeks period which follows the 7 Weeks period. Unfor tunately the Authorized Version omits the definite article which is the lin guistic key to the seeming discrepancy. But even apart from this, it should he obvious that if Messiah is to come at the end of the first 69 Weeks, as verse 25 declares, He could not very well be cflt off at the end of the first 62 Weeks, which would be 7 Weeks be fore He appeared. I trust that this will clear up the problem to any other readers who may have had some difficulty with it. Further Light on Daniel 9 By A lva J. M c C lain

Sometimes there would be no visible result, and we would feel sad of heart and would go back to the room and claim the ‘prom ise” of Isaiah 55:11 that some one must be saved. But the Lord showed me Hebrews 6:7, 8, “For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth^ herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.” The rain which cometh down from heaven and is figuring the Word of the Lord in Isaiah 55:10 and in Hebrews 6:7 sometimes produces herbs and some times briers. He taught me that His Word does not return “void” even if nobody is saved. Even if it deepens their condemnation, yet has it accomplished the purpose for which the message was sent forth: viz., the vindication of the divine righteousness. The realization is both comforting and challenging. It comforts us with the thought that we have performed God’s will and have ac complished His purpose, but it challenges us with the solemnity of it all and the fact that we are holding in our hands the very keys of life and death: It should cause in us deep heart-searching and earnest prayerfulness, lest by care lessness or flesh-energy we grieve the Holy Spirit or cause any to stumble. Ezekiel was sent to a “rebellious na tion” (Ezek. 2:3) and to “impudent chil dren and stiffhearted” to say, “Thus saith the Lord God; And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will for bear, (for they are a rebellious house), YET SHALL KNOW THAT THERE HATH BEEN A PROPHET AMONG THEM.” Coming back to our prophet Isaiah, we find that he Was commissioned to go and tell the people, “Hear ye indeed,
