Cancer Institute Fellowships Celebrate Their Second Year

In 2023, two of the Cancer Institute’s fellowship programs celebrated their second year. These programs, approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, include the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship and the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.

Professor and Program Director, Hematology/ Oncology Fellowship. He welcomed two new fellows to the three-year training program, Omar Alsharif, MD, and Lindsay Rumburger Rivera, MD. They join Year One Fellows James Davidson, MD, and Heidi Worth, MD. The four fellows will receive education and field training in the management and care of patients with hematologic disease and cancer as well as participate in teaching residents and

medical students. The fellows will also have opportunities to participate in research in their areas of interest. In 2024, two more fellows will join the program, bringing the total number of fellows to the program maximum of six. The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship is fully funded through the Stephen Y. Coleman Endowed Fellowship in Medical Oncology. The fellowship honors Stephen Coleman who lost his battle with brain cancer in 2011. The Coleman family has committed to continued support of the fellowship program honoring Stephen’s perseverance, courage and determination during his illness.
