Angels

October 12, 1947 “ HOLY SPIRIT, POWER DIVINE” M ark 1:1-8; A cts 1:8

Needed Often In times of extreme need, the Lord sends His angels, sometimes heavenly or human beings, to help, to guide, or to comfort His people. Multitudes of Jewish people and He brew Christians are in great distress. You can be an angel to them and bring relief and comfort in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. You can make THE FRIENDS OF ISRAEL MISSIONARY AND RELIEF SOCIETY, INC. your channel of mercy toward afflicted Israel and help us show forth the love of Christ to His earthly people. We are actively engaged in a world-wide ministry, sending food and clothing to many, and lifting up heavy- ladenea hearts by the Gospel of salva tion and grace. In cooperation with C.A.R.E. we are able to send a substantial food parcel for $10.00 to supplement the starvation rations of some Hebrew Christian or Jewish family in Poland, Germany, Aus tria, Roumania, or elsewhere. We need your prayerful fellowship and your gifts. rpHE work of God in our day is ac- complished by and through the person of the Holy Spirit. The Fa ther is in heaven, the Saviour is there at the Father’s right hand. The work is carried on here by this other One who has been sent by the Fa ther, and by the Son. He it is who is the Lord of the harvest. To Him has been committed the work and ministry of Christians, and He is the One who energizes and enriches the believers with divine unction for suc cessful service. He should have the same place in the Christian’s affec tion as- the Father and the Son. He should he received as the Lord of the daily life. He should be honored as sovereign Lord, and obeyed implic itly. The Father and the Son have appointed Him to manage our lives for us. We should agree and sub mit fully to His prompting and guid ance. W e M ust B e S pirit F illed for C ondemnation A cts 13:9 Only the Holy Spirit can give the right attitude toward things which are wrong. Paul did not pronounce this curse until he was Spirit filled. The natural hatred of the human heart is not .to be trusted to do the right thing. ’’The wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” Human hatred is disastrous and destructive. Men must be Spirit filled when they pronounce a curse upon evil else God’s will may not be properly carried out. Let the Spirit of God direqt the condemnation rather than the heat of human anger. Peter was Spirit filled when Ananias and Sapphira fell dead before him. Jesus was Spirit filled when He pro nounced anathemas upon the Phari sees. Only thq Holy Spirit can en able us to exhibit truly righteous indignation. W e M ust B e S pirit F illed to H ave P oiver in P reaching 1 C or . 2:4 Paul was filled with the Spirit con stantly. His speech, that is, his daily conversation in the business world, revealed a Spirit filled life. His pub lic ministry rrjanifested that he was led and taught by the Holy Spirit. This should be true of every Chris tian. There, should be no doubt In the minds of those who listen to the message as to the nature of the spirit controlling the one who speaks.

There should be that peculiar, in describable, and indispensable unc tion of the Holy Spirit in the words and the ways of all God’s people. Only then will we be proper wit nesses for the God of heaven whom men cannot see. No one can now see tlje Father, or the Son, but they can see and feel the presence of the Spirit of God working in and through the Christian. It was true in Paul’s life. It may be, and it should be, true in ours. W e M ust B e S pirit F illed to H ave P ower in P rayer J ude 20 Our prayers are naturally selfish and self-centered. Often we are not interested in God’s glory, but only in our good. It is easy to ignore God’s claims in order that we may put in our own demands. We must be Spirit filled as we approach God with our petitions in order that we may pray properly. It is said that a little child went into the woods to pick some flowers' for her father. She wanted to place them on the table at dinner. She gathered both flow ers and weeds, but her mother care fully separated the weeds from the flowers and presented the proper bouquet to the father. So the Spirit of God must remove from our prayers those things which are not pleasing to God and present the proper peti tions to Him. W e M ust B e S pirit F illed to H ave P ower in W itnessing A cts 1 :8 The preacher must be a living ex ample of the message he gives. What he says and what he does make the double witness that is so essential to success. Unless the gracious Spirit of God fills the messenger constant ly, he will neither say the right thing nor live ip the right way. The Spirit makes one holy as well as happy. He makes the talk right and the walk right. He also affects the hearts of those who observe the Christian. He arranges the program of the life in such a way that the proper persons are contacted with the message and the living example. The Lord softens the hearts so that the spiritually needy ones accept the message. The Lord causes people to observe the Christian’s life, and to be properly affected by what they see. Only the Holy Spirit can perform these ministries. Therefore, He should be fully honored and trusted. T H E K I N G ’ S B U S I N E S S
